Working on re-writing a footnote for
IoM that, it's been pointed out to me, was not as clear as I'd like it to be. The re-write:
In life we are confronted by problems that we render as binaries. This framing may be culturally or biologically established. Such barriers are for instance the inner and outer, mental and matter, order and chaos, and so on. Superimposed atop that we present ideas of teleology, linear movement towards an end, contrasting ideas of circularity. For instance, the Big Bang either presents a teleological or circular myth, depending on if we believe it is followed by a Big Crunch or not. These are all points of mythic necessity, existential dilemmas that we must directly confront in our lives— and the myths we spin as a result of those crisis points defines our way of being in that world. “We are segmented from all around and in every direction. The human being is a segmentary animal. Segmentarity is inherent to all the strata composing us.
